In part of their 40th anniversary celebration, The Joint Commission highlighted Southwest Michigan Imaging Center, which has been accredited since 1993.
Safety Officer Gerald Turowski began at the center 26 years ago as an engineer and had a few memorable accreditation moments, including being nervous about pulling the fire alarm for his first fire drill. The alarm didn't go off and he realized the alarm had to be tested and replaced.
He has seen accreditation change since his first survey, including the surveys becoming more educational and aimed at supporting quality instead of finding something that's wrong.
