A new Nevada bill has been introduced that would require medical facilities to develop patient safety checklists and update these checklists annually, according to a copy of the bill and news reports.
AB280, introduced by Las Vegas Democratic Assemblyman John Oceguera, calls for a facility's patient safety committee to adopt patient safety checklists for use by providers to address areas including patient identification before treatment and hand hygiene. The bill states review of these checklists would need to occur annually for purposes of revision or identifying the need for new checklists.
The bill also states facilities would need to, on or before July 1 of each year, submit a report to the Director of the Legislative Counsel Bureau for transmittal to the Legislative Committee on Health Care. The report must include information regarding the development, revision and usage of the patient safety checklists and a summary of the annual review conducted.
