The Pennsylvania Department of Health can now grant deemed status to hospitals for licensure purposes if the hospitals have been nationally accredited, according to a Mondaq report.
A deemed status means the hospital may be exempt from routine licensure renewal surveys through the DOH. Original accreditation must be granted by one of four accrediting bodies — Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program, The Joint Commission, Det Norske Veritas or the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality.
