Nevada Transparency Bills Clear State Senate

The Nevada Senate has passed a bundle of bills aimed at improving transparency, according to a Las Vegas Sun news report.

The package of bills includes the following:

• Under SB209, the state must establish a website where consumers can compare medical facilities based on adverse events.
• Under SB264, all adverse health events must be publicly reported, including infections, death and serious injury.
• Under SB338, the state's public reporting system must also include nursing homes with 25 or more beds.
• SB339 requires healthcare providers to notify patients if they obtain a facility-acquired infection.
• Under SB340, all hospitals and surgical centers must report the names of physicians and the procedures they perform.

Healthcare advocates and the Nevada Hospital Association have debated whether the publicly reported data should only include infection rates or raw numbers. The Senate Committee on Health and Human Services revised the bills so both sets of data would be reported. The bundle of bills will now go through the full Senate for a vote before being presented to the Assembly, according to the news report.
