Methodist Dallas Medical Center Suspends Transplant Program

Methodist Dallas Medical Center in Texas has voluntarily suspended its kidney and pancreas transplant program after a patient received the wrong kidney during a transplantation, according to a KVUE report.

Although the donated kidney was compatible with the patient, staff members did not follow protocol to ensure the right patient received the right organ. The affected patient did not suffer any complications, and the staff member responsible for the error was terminated.

The hospital has submitted a corrective action plan to the United Network for Organ Sharing and hopes to re-open the program soon.
