March is Malignant Hyperthermia Awareness Month as designated by the Malignant Hyperthermia Association of the United States.
Malignant hyperthermia is a genetic disorder in which body temperatures may rise enough to kill a patient. MH is found in one out of every 20,000 people, according to a news release.
The MHAUS encourages healthcare providers to keep MH training current to prevent adverse events caused by MH. MH recognition is a trouble area for ambulatory surgery centers, according to the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.
