Joint Commission Creates New 'Immediate Threat to Life' Standard, Revises Focused Self-Assessment EPs

The Joint Commission has created a new standard, APR.09.04.01, and revised the elements of performance in standard APR.03.01.01, according to The Joint Commission website.

 

The new standard and revision takes effect Jan. 1, 2012, and applies to The Joint Commission's ambulatory healthcare program, hospital program and four other accreditation programs.

 

APR.09.04.01 is described as "The organization provides care, treatment, services, and an environment that pose no risk of an 'Immediate Threat to Health or Safety,' also known as 'Immediate Threat to Life' or ITL situation."

APR.03.01.01, which has five EPs and underwent the revision, is described as "The organization fulfills the requirements for the Focused Self-Assessment (FSA)."
