H&P Issues Voluntary Recall of Povidine Iodine Prep Pads Due to Microbial Infection

H&P Industries, parent company of Triad Group and manufacturer of over-the-counter products, has initiated a voluntary product recall of all lots of its povidine prep pads, according to a company news release.

Povidine iodine prep pads are used to prevent infection in minor cuts, scrapes and burns and are labeled as an antiseptic for preparation of the skin prior to surgery. The prep pads contain some of the same raw material as the recalled alcohol prep pads recently recalled by Triad and were therefore investigated by FDA and H&P for potential contamination. Analytical testing showed the presence of objectionable organisms, namely Elizabethkingia meningoseptica. There have not been any reports of adverse events in connection with the contaminated iodine prep pads.
