According to a California Ambulatory Surgery Association report, a new law in the state requires the California Department of Public Health to use Medicare Certification requirements as state licensure criteria for ASCs.
The law requires states to use Medicare Certification requirements until the CDPH adopts specific state licensure requirements via regulation, according to the report. The bill also requires CDPH to conduct at least one public hearing and submit a report that describes whether the federal certification standards are sufficient for state licensing standards by July 1, 2017.
The report will also make California-specific recommendations if any are necessary.
