5 things to know about AAAASF

The American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities is an accreditation organization, one of the largest not-for-profit accrediting organizations in the United States.

Here are five things to know about the accrediting body:

1. AAAASF was established in 1980.

2. The organization accredits more than 2,000 outpatient facilities currently and more facilities are in the process for accreditation.

3. Several private insurance carriers recognize AAAASF accreditation for reimbursement and coverage procedures. AAAASF has a separate program to evaluate and approve facilities for Medicare certification.

4. The president of AAAASF’s executive committee is Foad Nahai, MD; David C. Watts, MD, is president-elect and Geoffrey R. Keyes, MD, is past president.

5. The organization accredits facilities in all 50 states and has granted Medicare accreditation to more than 750 centers since 1998.
