Here are five key facts from The Joint Commission about scoring and certification decisions.
1. The Joint Commission strives to make sure scoring and certification is based on the organization's performance with respect to Joint Commission standards and elements of performance.
2. The scoring and certification process is transparent and all components are fully disclosed to accredited certification organizations.
3. Elements of performance are scored on a three-point system:
• 0 is insufficient compliance
• 1 is partial compliance
• 2 is satisfactory compliance
4. The insufficient or partially compliant elements of performance must be addressed via the Evidence of Standard Compliance submission process. The updates can be made within 45 days or 60 days, depending on the direct impact on the patient, individual served or resident care.
5. Certified programs meet all requirements for their programs either without requirements for improvement or submitting the improvements for review.
