The Joint Commission's blog, Ambulatory Buzz, offers tips on how to stay in compliance with the organization's accreditation requirements. The blog's March 11 post gives three tips to remember the proper treatment of medical gas, as per TJC's regulations. The three tips together make up "The ABCs of medical gas safety."
1. Always physically separate full and empty cylinders of gas.
2. Be sure to clearly label cylinders as full or empty.
3. Consider any open cylinder as empty. While it may still have gas inside, it should not be stored with full cylinders.
