Woman wins $1.5M in verdict after Bloomsburg University Nurse Anesthesia Program dismissal

Angel Borrell won a $1.5 million jury verdict against the Bloomsburg University Nurse Anesthesia Program, operated with Geisinger Medical Center, when she was allegedly dismissed from the program for failing to take a drug test, according to a Times Leader Report.

Here are three things to know:

1. The lawsuit, originally filed in October 2012, was heard in U.S. District Court, where jurors found Geisinger violated Ms. Borrell's rights and she suffered injuries as a result of the denial of due process, according to court documents cited in Times Leaders.

2. According to the report, Geisinger owes Ms. Borrell $1.1 million in punitive damages and $415,000 in compensatory damages.

3. Jurors did find Ms. Borrell would have been dismissed from the program if she had been given due process, but still is owed the above amount, according to the report.
