SPR Therapeutics received a $1.45 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to develop a fully-implantable peripheral nerve stimulation system.
The system will be designed to treat post-amputation pain. The system will feature SPR's proprietary method of percutaneously stimulating peripheral nerves. This involves the insertion of a very small medical wire or lead through the skin.
This NIH grant adds to a $2.8 million research grant from the U.S. Department of Defense for ongoing clinical trials that assess the safety and efficacy of SPR Therapeutics' PNS therapy.
