Resveratrol Found to Reduce Morphine Tolerance in Rats

Resveratrol, a polyphenol compound found in many plant-based foods and in the skins of grapes, has been found to preserve the pain-relieving effects of morphine in rats, according to Anesthesia & Analgesia.

A study was conducted on male rats in which intrathecal catheters pumped morphine infusion for five days and then resveratrol was injected in another catheter for three hours, followed by more morphine.

Results showed resveratrol pretreatment significantly reduced sensitivity to pain in the morphine-tolerant rats. The researchers attributed this to the resveratrol inhibiting neuroinflammation.
