Montana Anesthesiologist Pleads Guilty to Prescription Fraud

Anesthesiologist Cory L. Pickens, MD, of Billings, Mont., has pleaded guilty to prescription fraud, according to a report from the Missoulian and Associated Press.

 

Prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney's Office said Dr. Pickens wrote more than 70 prescriptions between Jan. 2007 and Nov. 2009 for Oxycontin, oxycodone and hydrocodone to support his addiction to narcotics. In some cases he forged another physician's signature.

 

Dr. Pickens faces a maximum penalty of four years and will be sentenced Dec. 15.
