The FDA's ban on powdered gloves took effect Jan. 28, 2017, according to Anesthesia News.
Here's what you need to know.
1. The FDA said the gloves "pose an unreasonable and substantial risk for illness or injury," to both providers and patients.
2. The FDA couldn't correct the risk through update labeling, so it instead banned the gloves altogether.
3. The aerosolized powder in rubber gloves carries proteins that could cause allergic reactions.
4. The ban does not apply to powered radiographic protection gloves or unpowered gloves.
5. The power can still be used in the manufacturing process of unpowered gloves as the residual powder does not pose a substantial risk.
