American Society of Anesthesiologists Names B. Diane Gambill Chief Learning Officer

The American Society of Anesthesiologists has appointed B. Diane Gambill, PhD, as the society's new chief learning officer, according to an ASA release.

Ms. Gambill comes to the ASA from Physician's Education Resource, where she served as executive vice president and chief scientific officer. Prior to her work in the private sector, Ms. Gambill served as assistant professor in the department of biological sciences at Southern Methodist University and a post-doctoral research fellow in the department of biomolecular chemistry at University of Wisconsin Medical School.

According to the report, Ms. Gambill notes that the field of medical education is moving increasingly toward documenting knowledge and learning gaps, designing educational activities to address those gaps and measuring the effectiveness of CME programs in improving physician performance and patient outcomes. She said she wants to achieve those goals and, by doing so, maintain ASA's position as the "leader in anesthesia education."
