American Association of Nurse Anesthetists honors Randolf Harvey: 5 things to know

Randolf Harvey, a certified registered nurse anesthetist, will receive the 31st annual Alice Magaw Outstanding Clinical Anesthesia Practitioner Award at the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists' annual congress later this month. The award recognizes CRNAs who have advanced the nurse anesthesia practice.

Here are five things to know about Mr. Harvey:

1. He teaches CRNAs, anesthesiologists and ophthalmologists about ophthalmic anesthesia, with an emphasis on orbital blocks.

2. Mr. Harvey created and teaches an ophthalmic block workshop, which includes a discussion on issues relating to accreditation, evidence-based practices and regulation.

3. He authored a chapter on anesthesia for ophthalmic procedures in the textbook Nurse Anesthesia.

4. He is a founding member of the Ophthalmic Anesthesia Society.

5. He holds an associate of science degree in nursing from Valencia College in Orlando, Fla., and a certification in anesthesia from Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
